Getting here from Hat Yai

It's a straightforward 30-minute trip from central Hat Yai to Koh Yo Island — by car, taxi, songthaew or a ride-hailing app. Flying in or out of Hat Yai with a few hours spare? The lake is well worth it instead of another afternoon in the malls. Our travel office can arrange transport or a transfer, and even a room by the lake if you'd like to stay over.

Who it's for

Couples wanting a romantic, unhurried afternoon; families looking for something calm and safe; and travellers who've ticked off the famous beaches and want a genuinely local, low-impact experience. Sunset over Songkhla Lake near Koh Yo Island, an easy day trip from Hat Yai

Choose the kind of trip you want

Every trip is a private boat on Songkhla Lake, so the day is shaped around you. Tell Peter which of these sounds right and he'll plan the route.

🏝

Songkhla Lake sightseeing

A relaxed cruise around the shores of Koh Yo Island, past stilt-house fishing villages, bamboo fish stakes and long-tail boats. The best way to actually see Thailand's largest natural lake.

🌅

Sunset boat trip

Our own favourite. Head out in the late afternoon and drift through golden hour with a cold drink as the lake turns to glass and the fishing boats come home.

🎣

Fishing on the lake

A slow, quiet session on the water with local knowledge of where to drop a line. Ideal if you'd rather sit still for a few hours than tick off sights.

📷

Photography trips

Mirror-flat water, soft light and a silent, stable boat that doesn't scare the birdlife away. Sunrise and sunset are the hours to ask for.
